We’re proud to share that our project, Relay, won at the 2024 Annual Student Design and Technology Showcase! This achievement is incredibly meaningful to us, as it signifies that investors and the audience believe in our vision. They agree that we have correctly identified the key issues and pain points faced by parents and recognize that our solution is well-developed and effectively addresses these challenges. This recognition provides our team with tremendous affirmation!
A memorable presentation
We were honored to present Relay to BC Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills Anne Kang, City of Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley, and other distinguished guests. We also had the chance to share our vision with angel investors Aaron Stuart, Crystal Carson, and Roland Tecson. Their feedback and advice were invaluable in helping us improve our product.

Unforgettable Journey
Over the past three months, we worked tirelessly to bring Relay to life. From brainstorming and conducting research to interviewing school principals, teachers, and families, we gained a deep understanding of their stories, needs, and concerns. Every insight helped shape the app into what it is today.
Relay is more than just a ridesharing app—it’s a platform designed to help parents connect, share resources, and ensure safe and reliable transportation for kids.
Challenges We Overcame
This journey came with its share of challenges—designing dynamic accounts for parents and drivers, balancing an intuitive interface with advanced features, and implementing smart route matching, AI ride notifications, and GPS live tracking. These tasks required us to overcome technical hurdles while maintaining clear communication within the team.
Despite the obstacles, we believe all the hard work was worth it. Relay has the potential to truly make a difference for families.
As we shared during our presentation, we believe technology should not drive people apart. By leveraging technology, we can address concerns about ridesharing while strengthening the connections between parents and kids. That’s the heart of what Relay is all about!
